While Kim “Kim Dotcom” Schmitz is often known for grandiose tales and exaggeration, a video obtained by New Zealand’s Channel 3 News shows that his description of his arrest — a violent SWAT style takedown — was completely accurate.
The video opens with an early morning raid on the Dotcom mansion, involving SWAT officers swooping down from helicopters and searching the house for the decidedly non violent former cyberlocker mogul.
When Mr. Schmitz saw the officers raiding his mansion, he popped into his panic room to hide.
“I thought, you know, I’d better wait for them to come to me,” he rationalized to the court, “rather than me popping out of that secret door and maybe, you know, scaring someone who might shoot me.”
Mr. Schmitz claimed that he was “roughed up” during his arrest, something the arresting officers deny and the video does not show.
Mr. Schmitz’s extradition hearing is pushed back until March 2013.
