Valve announced today that it plans to expand Steam’s offerings to “creativity to productivity” software come September.
This follows a leak on the Steam mobile app, which advertised software categories such as photo editing, design, and video editing.
Valve says many of the launch titles will take advantage of popular Steamworks features — like automatic installation and software updating — as well as the Steam Cloud space to ensure portability of files.
“The 40 million gamers frequenting Steam are interested in more than playing games,” said Mark Richardson at Valve, in a press release. “They have told us they would like to have more of their software on Steam, so this expansion is in response to those customer requests.”
According to Valve, developers will be able to submit software titles via Steam Greenlight.
