    Techno Miracle saves the Alliance, January 11, 2013

    Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program (What’s this?)

    Introduction:
    I run an old Toshiba Satellite U205-S5067 in full original factory configuration. She spins an old Hitachi 5400rpm 160gb hard drive. She has a boot sequence similar to that of the Millennium Falcon… slow and unpredictable.
    Sometimes she boots really fast, like three minutes from bios password to fully operational. Sometimes she boots slower than that, like five, or more, minutes to operational. Average boot time is certainly over four minutes. Usually I get to the login screen and then go get a drink to avoid the endless waiting. If I had to wait for my little machine to save me, Darth Vader would have me for sure.

    The Fix:
    Introduce a little techno miracle called SanDisk Ultra Plus SSD. The drive is so light that I actually thought the package from Amazon was empty until I opened it. Gladly, the drive was inside the package.

    I used the Apricorn SATA Wire and Cloning Software Upgrade Kit to clone my old hard drive in less than two hours. Then I swapped out the old Hard Drive for the new clone SSD. The result is a computer that boots from bios password to fully operational in less than one minute. Every single time!

    I cannot begin to describe how much faster my machine is at everything it does. Boot time, web browsing, software start up, etc.: everything is faster, much faster. Thanks to this little techno miracle I feel certain that my stolen plans for the Death Star will now remain safely in our rebel hands. Thank the Maker.

    PS If you are not a techno-geek super nerd: This is a really really good hard drive. It has no moving parts and it’s really fast. Buy it.

    PPS The SATA Wire with Cloning Software made this upgrade a simple, almost plug and play, operation. Highly recommended.

    I’ve heard and read about how fast a Solid State Drive will perform, especially on startup. I tried this drive on my 5 year old Sony Vaio laptop.

    Before install, I timed the startup and shutdown (Windows 7).
    power on to login screen = 1:04
    password entry to desktop = 26 seconds
    shutdown = 16 seconds

    After SSD install:
    power on to login screen = 25 seconds
    password entry to desktop = 3 seconds
    shutdown = 3 seconds

    The windows “Experience Index” for the drive is 7.8 (on a scale of 1.0 to 7.9).

    I think anyone would agree that speaks for itself. Now I have a different problem, I have to buy one for my other computer..

    Running VMs on it, April 3, 2013

    Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)

    I’m using this drive inside my HP 8540w laptop, bought a drive caddy with it and I’ve got the drive in my CD-ROM slot. Since almost everything can be downloaded as an ISO now, I use the CD drive like twice a year. I have all of my VMware Workstation virtual machines running on this drive – I have a test lab with 10 VMs running on it and the drive handles it all like a champ.
