Qualcomm announced Monday that it had named former Intel executive Anand Chandrasekher to the position of Chief Marketing Officer.
“I am pleased to welcome Anand Chandrasekher as chief marketing officer,” Qualcomm President Steve Mollenkopf said in a statement. “His extensive experience in marketing and management makes Anand well-suited to help grow Qualcomm’s communications and marketing efforts across the world and to amplify our consumer offerings to new audiences.”
During his 25-year career at Intel, Mr. Chandrasekher most recently served as chief of the Intel Mobility Group. His resignation came in last year, and Intel subsequently restructured the division.
Under Mr. Chandrasekher, Intel’s mobility division was literally decimated by ARM-licenced chips from competitors: Its chips appeared in virtually no smartphones or tablets of note.
While Intel and Qualcomm have always been technically competitors, the two companies — with the minor exception of Intel’s foray into mobile chips — have stuck to well defined separate turfs. This will change in October, as Qualcomm is part of the Windows RT trifecta.
Another recent hire of Qualcomm’s is Eric Demers, who left AMD unexpectedly on the eve of the launch of the Radeon 7700.
