KEY TECHNOLOGIES
PREPARE TO BE DAZZLED
Want deeper blacks and richer colors? LG’s LED technology provides even greater control of brightness and delivers better contrast, amazing clarity and color detail, as well as greater energy efficiency compared to conventional LCD Monitors.
DOUBLE THE DETAIL
This stunning picture is the reason you wanted HD in the first place. With almost double the pixel resolution, Full HD 1080p gives it superior picture quality over standard resolution. You’ll see details and colors like never before.
SAVE MORE THAN ENERGY
Earning the ENERGY STAR means a product meets strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy. For Monitors, it means they save energy both in standby and active (when they’re on) modes. ENERGY STAR qualified Monitors use about 25{b81fbfd19e1fca5890798868c0714c408bbd5ec471654b6f9630c0fffa6e7eb3} less energy than standard units.
For the price – excellent!,
*REVIEW UPDATED!*
I recently built myself a desktop, so of course it was time for a new monitor. I knew I wanted LED for the power savings alone (and the arguably better blacks/contrast) and LG has been a good brand to me over the years. When I found this monitor for less than one hundred dollars, I jumped on it!

1920x1080P Resolution @ 60hz (16:9 ratio)
Standard VESA Mount
5,000,000:1 Contrast Ratio (marketing hype)
5ms Response Time
BUILD QUALITY
It is as good as any sub-$300 monitor – the stand is quite wobbly but honestly I haven’t found a cheap monitor with a good stand yet! Part of the problem is that everything is plastic, so there is no real weight to it. Apart from that, I am not terribly displeased. *UPDATE* – the wobbling finally became enough to annoy me, so I put two of these monitors on a VESA Dual Monitor Stand and it is much more manageable. Also, out of the box this monitor ONLY tilts around 20°, it does not swivel or raise up and down. Since I knew this going in to it I was not disappointed, however adding a VESA mount gives you a lot more flexibility!
ACCESSORIES/FUNCTIONALITY
In the box was the monitor and stand, power cable and DVI and VGA cables, this is pretty standard. It plugged in and was recognized in both Windows and OSX (I am on a hackintosh), and drivers were automatically installed. This monitor only has VGA and DVI inputs – however using an HDMI-DVI adapter you can also have 1080P HDMI input without any loss of quality. I am currently using the Tripp Lite HDMI to DVI adapter and it works particularly well – I highly recommend it.
IMAGE QUALITY
I am a photographer by trade, doing all my work on Apple’s IPS technology. That said, the image quality isn’t bad for the price. Blacks are displayed nicely and colors are crisp and relatively true. Gradients fair rather less well, with clear (and annoying) banding on greyscale gradients, but again, this is to be expected in this price range and unless you are very particular about image quality, you probably won’t notice. You should flat-out ignore the 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio claims – each company has their own measurement for this number and it is more often than not absolutely overstated. The contrast on this monitor is closer to a 4 year old HP that I had, which claimed 8000:1. Response time is standard for gaming at 5ms with no visible ghosting. Color balance took a little tweaking for my liking, however you can use either Apple or Window’s built-in color calibration tool to help you hit that sweet spot. I had to up the native gamma just a hair as well as reduce some blue but apart from that it was really rather decent OOB.
THE BENEFITS OF LED
The first and foremost benefit of LED technology is the power savings. This monitor (as any other LED monitor) does draw less power, and even though you probably won’t see much in terms of financial savings, over time this will contribute to less money out of your pocket (in conjunction with other measures taken at home). Being EnergyStar certified, you know that they can’t do much to exaggerate the energy saving capabilities of this product. As far as visual benefits, however, I honestly have to say that there was no noticeable gain from LED over decent true LCD monitors. Many LED monitors tout better black reproduction and better contrast, but honestly as I mentioned above, I saw the same performance from an older HP monitor that was in this same price range. NOTE: This may be (and probably is) different the more you pay in the LED monitor line, I am specifically commenting on this monitor, not all LED monitors.
Still, having a very thin, power-saving monitor is worth the upgrade in my opinion.
OVERALL
For the money spent, you are getting 22″ of clear colorful LED display, which is more than enough for most users. If you mostly use this monitor for email and looking at family photos, you will be incredibly happy with this monitor. If you use your computer for gaming and movie watching, you probably won’t be disappointed. Graphics and photography? You should already know that non-IPS monitors are a bad idea anyway, however if budget is what drives you, you can deal with a little gray-scale banding right? Take a look at the other reviews for support of my statements!
For the money spent (and even the current price), this is a very decent monitor (I now own two).
4/5, a true “I like it” as defined by Amazon’s star rating guidelines.

Great Monitor,
I’m feeling old remembering how much I paid for my first 12″ color monitor. Even without adjusting for inflation, enough to equip the whole office with these great monitors.
I looked pretty hard at different options, but it came down to crispness and some of the other features of the monitor. Feather light it’s easy to move around the desk. Hookup was easy and there’s an abundance of input options. Startup was seamless.
I like the wide format. When looking at documents I can do full width and scroll vertically.
I have had great experience with LG equipment and although I have only had this for a few months I would buy another without going through the same drawn out process.

Computer monitor,
The monitor itself works great but there was a piece missing for the base that I was not aware of until it arrived. It still functions but can be knocked out of the base if you’re not careful. Overall I am happy about this purchase and would have bought it even if I knew about the missing piece, just wish the ad pointed it out.
