used in silverstone milono micro case for htpc. Has been quite, and modular design allows for better airflow in small micro case designed for atx power supply. No power fluckations, barely hear it running once powered on. Would recommend.

Not the quality I expected from Corsair, April 29, 2013

I received the package on a Saturday after ordering on Thursday, shipping was excellent. First I would like to say that I purchased a different, 450W, non modular Corsair PSU for my Dad a month ago, and looking at the device, it appeared that it was really good quality with all sleeved cables and looked solid. However, he has an issue where if he turns off his computer. He either has to restart twice because the first attempt doesn’t get him past BIOS, or he has to cut power completely from the PSU at night when turning off the computer. So based on what I saw with how it was built, I figured that my Dads issues were a fluke, I decided to try Corsair. This model just didn’t have the same look of quality as the other one and I was kind of disappointed about the cables being flat, ribbon -like and sleeveless. I was really hoping to reduce clutter in my tower, but it didn’t make as big a difference as I hoped. The SATA cable connectors are upside down for my basic configuration, so to work with a single pass, I would have to put my hard drives upside down, or mount my PSU on the bottom. So instead, I have to run the cable down and then back up, and I had to move hard drives around to accommodate the cable. Aren’t top mounted PSU’s more common? The upside down HDs don’t line up to any screw holes, so I’m out of luck there. Another thing that has bothered me is the fact that Tech support has not responded to my email regarding two other questions, when they promised a response in 8 hours, and my simple question was : Can I safely plug in both connections for an Nvidia GTX 670 using one cable? Or should I be using both cables, one connection from each. I also asked where I can get a user manual because one was not included, but the warranty paper said I can get one online. I wasted an hour going in circles and cannot find the user guide. I’ve had 2 random shut offs so far, and that may be because of how the PCI-E cables stick out when plugged into the vid card, I might have loosened them when putting on the sides of the case, so I smashed them in the best I could, and so far today no problems. I’ve had this in my computer for almost 24 hours now, and if I encounter one more issue, big or small, I’m probably going to send this back. Customer service obviously wouldn’t be of any help if something big happened because they haven’t responded to the most basic questions. This unit replaced a XION 800W PSU that is 4 years old and non-modular, but still working. Oh, Voltage readings per UEFI: +5.0V__5.088V / +3.3V__3.296V / +12V__12.144V And voltages seem consistent and stable, so the next 72 hours will tell if I’m keeping this, however I would not buy again knowing what I know now.**Update** This started whining when pushing my video card on games and benchmarks. It’s actually called coil whine and I’m not dealing with this unit giving me such small issues within the first week. Customer service STILL has not responded to my email, and that irritates me because they made me sign up for their forums, and give my personal info, just to have them lie to me and say that someone will reply within 8 hours. DON’T WORRY ABOUT REPLYING CORSAIR. I’VE HEARD YOU LOUD AND CLEAR. Back to Amazon for this, and I’m researching different power supplies to make sure my next purchase is well thought out. ** 7/3/2013 ** The Corsair has long been gone, and I ended up getting a good deal on an OCZ 850 Modular Gold for the same price. I’m very happy with the OCZ because it resolves the problems I had with the Corsair, but I will say something in the Corsairs favor. It seemed the moment the power is turned on, full power was there and accessible, where every other PSU that I’ve had seems like the power kind of spools up. As an example, when I turn on my computer, my video card fans spin at 100{b81fbfd19e1fca5890798868c0714c408bbd5ec471654b6f9630c0fffa6e7eb3} in reverse to shoot the dust off, and with the Corsair, the fans were at full speed within 3 seconds..With every other PSU the fans are hitting full speed around 6 seconds and closer to when I’m actually in Windows. With the Corsair it felt like bootup times were quicker because of that, I don’t have benchmarks, but it just felt that way. I still wouldn’t consider the CX model though.

Needing a bit more reserve power for a planned video card upgrade this unit seemed to fit the bill. I have a Dell 660 (not the 660s) and installation was fairly straightforward and took about 20 minutes. Half of that time was marking and ensuring my two monitor cables, 3 sound card cables, and 5 USB connection locations were documented before pulling them off and putting it back together. Only tool used was a 1/4″ nut driver to removing/installing the 4 screws securing the power supply in the case.

The main power connector doesn’t seem to want to seat as far as it should and the retaining clip doesn’t fully snap into place so we’ll see if that causes any issues later on. I just installed it today so we’ll see how the longivity goes. It’s quiet as one would expect with no fan noise and my unit sits not 18″ away from me on top a two drawer filing cabinet. I still have the side off the case and the only noise I hear is the fan on my graphics card – which will get replaced in the next couple of days anyway with the EVGA GeForce GT620 I purchased a few days ago to replace the EVGA GeForce 9400GT card I have. The current (9400GT) card works fine but the fan noise gets irritating sometimes but it’s a couple of years old as well. It may go into my other Dell 620 that I keep as a backup.

A lot of reviewers wish for longer SATA power connections but in the smaller Dell case they’re actually too long for my taste and have to be tied up to keep the installation fairly clean but that’s a much easier task than trying to stretch a cable and Corsair even included some wire ties to bundle things up. This is my first modular power supply and it’s definately the way to go, a few more dollars but worth it to NOT have cables I don’t use getting in the way. I also like the 8-pin power connector (ATX12V) versatility of being able to be split into two 4-pin connectors as a single 4-pin is what my Dell uses.
