    i have always been an air cooled person. reading reviews u can always see air coolers just as efficent as liquid cooling for half the price…. i was previously using a zahlman heatsink and i loved it. had a phenom x4 3.5ghz clocked to 4.0 ghz with the zahlman and at idle it stayed around 35c and under full load would hit 62c, this cooler master seidon is currently hooked up to an fx 6300 clocked at 4.0 ghz and at idle it has not gone above 17c and the higest i have seen at load was 42c. installation was extremely easy on my am3+ board (asus sabertooth r 2.0). amd owners just have to use factory mobo backplate as it normally goes with after market coolers for amd sockets. i do agree with other reviews that u have to push hard but the screws have tension springs on them and considering how hard i have had to push on some of the other 200+ coolers i have installed this one isnt bad at all.

    now the only problem i have with this cooler is that the fan that came with the cooler was dead!!! ahhh!!! that sucked and actually took about an hour after the build for me to notice, which is good and bad i guess…. it was an easy fix since i have fans laying around everywhere but if u have no extras it may be something u want to ask for. while the fan was not spinning i was installing windows/updating and running some simple programs and using firefox, at a suprise to me the cpu never went above 35c the whole time…. that has to say something for the quality of this product.

    all in all i will without a doubt put this cooler in my next several builds in replacement of air coolers……. i love it and could not be happier

    I bought this to replace the stock AMD fan for my Phenom II 945. Here are my observation after one week

    Pro:
    Keeps the system 10C cooler than the stock fan. Temperature ranges from 30C-35C
    With the fan turned off, it performs as well as the stock fan. Temperature ranges from 40C-45C
    Cheap

    Con:
    At full speed, the fan can be as noisy as the stock fan.
    Water hoses are a bit short, but this is a subjective point.
    Quick disconnects on the hoses would have been wonderful. My case was a little small, so there was no room to mount it internally. I had to cut a large hole in my case rather than route the hoses through the provided water cooling holes.

    Overall, it’s a great cooling unit for the price. I wanted it to get a bit warmer to “break in” the arctic silver, but I guess that’s a good problem to have.

    Update:
    After one month, I’m still happy with this cooler. I found a setting in the BIOS to make the automatic fan controller not go nuts until it hits 60C. Things are so quiet now that I have to check the power LED to see if the PC is on, even in the middle of the night. I’m guessing I don’t have to worry about the pump as long as the LED indicator on the cooler still glows blue.

    I own several quad core computers. A 2600k Sandy Bridge, a Q66000-b and a Q9400 that I use as a Digital Audio Workstation with Cubase 7, UAD-2 and Protools 10. Being an old computer the heat sink was failing and it was running hot. Now, if I *Really* wanted to I could probably build a new computer but I want to hold on until the 8 cores come out because, aside from graphic cards, I just don’t see a huge difference in speed between my i7 2600k and my Q9400. Now, realize that both are dedicated computers doing specific tasks. I’m not playing games on these computers.

    Anyway, I was having thermal issues with my DAW (the q9400) so decided to get a cool alternative… this one. Now, I have a rack mounted case. That simply means it’s a server case that fits into a rack mount next to my RME UFX, Reverb unit, compressor and preamps.

    I was quite happy to see that with this unit, on my Q9400 OC’d to 3GHZ I am getting 35C at idle and 53C on my first core at load. This is in a very hot studio full of 5 tube amps and a lot of electronic equipment in HOUSTON, TEXAS. I spend long hours in my studio and am hoping this thing never leaks or breaks down. It has a 120mm fan, and it’s not loud. I’d like it to be a tad quieter but it’s not bad at all. Doesn’t interfere with my recording. I don’t OC it more because I don’t need to. It works great on my 775 and I suspect will work fine on other systems both AMD and Intel. Check the specs. It’s designed for 3 or 4 intel architectures and I don’t know how many AMD types. Many great instructions on cool master’s web site that links to youtube.

    It’s very easy to install except I had to take my system apart and put it back together. I also had to mod my case to accommodate the 120mm fan. That means I had to poke holes in the metal to properly put the radiator and fan in there. Also, with this setup, you blow air INTO the case then blow it out thus cooling the radiator. Weird, huh? But it works. Results don’t lie.

    One more thing is, I used Arctic Silver 5. Why? Because it has a great rep. You’re gonna find videos from people who spread it around with their fingers. Don’t do that. That just creates air bubbles. Instead, clean the heatsink and CPU cover very well and put it on like a grain of rice. Screw it in evenly and the pressure spreads it around.

    It’s a great system and, if it prolongs the use of my daw for another couple of years AND NEVER LEAKS I’ll be thrilled! If it does leak — you’ll be hearing from me! I have a very expensive UAD-2 card in my computer and all my original songs.

    I’m quite happy with the thermal numbers and Q9400’s can get pretty hot. Great processors because they don’t just burn out — they throttle down then they shut down. At least that’s been my experience and what I’ve been told.

    So, yes, look no further. This works and works well! Just make sure your case has a 120mm opening and better yet, both sides of the case open so installation will take minutes instead of hours.
