For those who think the $1000 GTX 690’s heatsink isn’t enough, Arctic has announced their new Accelero Twin Turbo 690.
Sporting two massive, yet quiet 120mm fans, ten heatpipes and 86 dense aluminum fins, the Twin Turbo 690 can disperse up to 400W of heat. As a result, it is supposed to shave off 12°C from the GTX 690’s already-low temperature while also featuring a much smaller acoustical footprint. Unfortunately, the Accelero Twin Turbo 690 takes up three expansion slots and it still dumps this substantial amount of heat back into your case.
The GTX 690’s heatsink design is supposed to be one of the most advanced around due to its inclusion of high end materials and engineering innovations that allow for lower temperatures despite the dual GK104 cores and 4GB of GDDR5 memory sitting on the PCB. NVIDIA’s design seems to be perfectly suited for its intended use.
Why would anyone want to demolish a $1000 graphics card that is already cool, quiet and composed? As Arctic is demonstrating, there are always improvements to be made, even if the replaced design is nearly perfect to begin with. However, the real question here is whether anyone is willing to drop $170 (USD) for an Accelero Twin Turbo after spending so much on this generation’s most expensive graphics card.
