Western Digital Releases Thunderbolt-Equipped VelociRaptor Duo & 2TB MyPassport

Western Digital released today two new products in its ‘My’ line: the VelociRaptor Duo and the MyPassport for Mac.

The VelociRaptor Duo

WD’s VelociRaptor Duo packs two 1 TB 10,000 RPM drives (with RAID 0/Raid 1), and offers two Thunderbolt connectors allowing, according to WD, 400mb/s “SSD-like speeds”.

These “SSD-like speeds” are certainly impressive: WD says the VelociRaptor Duo can transfer 22 GB full-length HD movies in less than 65 seconds, 2000 5 MB pictures in less than 33 seconds and over 500 5 MB songs in less than 8 seconds

“The My Book VelociRaptor Duo is the fastest and most reliable high performance consumer storage device on the market today,” explained Jody Bradshaw, senior director of WD’s consumer storage solutions group, in a press release.  “Creative professionals now have access to a super-charged storage drive that will keep pace with even the most demanding projects. Daisy-chaining multiple My Book VelociRaptor Duo devices together offers even greater speed, more capacity and flexibility.”

The My Book VelociRaptor Duo is available from leading e-tailers and retailers for $899 (U.S)
