Samsung announced the launch today of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, a tablet-sized edition of its popular Galaxy Note “phablet” launched earlier this year.
While this new device bears the Galaxy Note name, it is anything but a phone-tablet hybrid: At 10.1 inches (slightly larger than an iPad’s 9.6 inch screen) the device is a full-on tablet with a stylus.
“GALAXY Note 10.1 further demonstrates Samsung’s dedication to delivering products that offer a complete mobile experience for creating personalized and expressive content,” said JK Shin, President of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics, in a statement. “History has shown that taking notes, capturing ideas immediately, and sketching to realize them is the most personal and natural way to be more productive and creative. The advanced technology and features included in GALAXY Note 10.1 give users the power to produce, create and customize communications.”
When the Note 10.1 was first introduced at the Mobile World Congress in Feburary, it had a dual-core 1.4 GHz processor. According to the announcing press release sent out by Samsung today, this chip has been upped to a quad-core 1.4 GHz Exynos processor. The Note 10.1 will have 2GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel main camera with a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera, Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich, and either 3G or LTE radios.

While market research report after market research report show that Samsung is now the smartphone hegemon, Apple is still the tablet king (owning over 50 percent of the market). Samsung is hoping that the popularity of the stylus from the original Galaxy Note will translate well (and with less trade dress lawsuits) into the tablet world.
