HP Has Decided Your Printers Need AI

HP has been inspired to make printing even worse, today adding ‘AI’ to your printer drivers.  Thankfully it is in beta so you won’t be forced to live with HP Print AI, HP Scan AI Enhanced, HP Build Workspace nor Perfect Output unless you ask nicely.  The so called HP Print AI is designed to help you print out web pages, perfectly normal behaviour in this day and age, by detecting and stripping out the ads from the print job.

HP Scan AI Enhanced is a cloud based feature which “recognizes the type of documents being scanned and extracts key information based on the customer’s specific business needs.”  You do want to make sure that the confidential material your lawyers and accountants, the ones most likely to still be scanning documents these days, exist somewhere on the cloud where.  They will be perfectly secure and couldn’t possibly breach confidentiality or security requirements in any way.

HP Build Workspace on the other hand, is for architecture, engineering, and construction firms and will somehow help them “organize site observations, facilitate collaboration, and automate tasks such as field reports”.  This will be brand new to those industries, who presumably have been using sticks and clay tablets until HP created the first electronic tools to assist architects in building projects.

About the only thing AI about HP Print AI is the built in support which will walk you through the setup of your printers with natural language and the support button will remember questions you asked it previously.  You might want to grab a copy of the current HP Universal printer driver before it gets infected!

Now that you’ve had a bit of a giggle, read below for all the horrific security issues which greeted us late yesterday and this morning.
