Microsoft Is Plotting Murder! Say Good Bye To Your Old Friend, The Control Panel

The Mutilation Of Task Manager Wasn’t Enough To Satisfy Them

Remember when Task Manager wasn’t an Explorer process, that you could still launch when explorer.exe went belly up and launch a new explorer process to bring your desktop back?  It is still hidden under C:WindowsSysWOW64Taskmgr.exe but good luck launching it if your system has hung.  Instead we have a Settings app that does most of what Task Manager did, except work when your system needs it most.  Well, soon another old friend will be disembowelled and replaced with the Settings app.

Microsoft have yet to set a date for the death of the Control but when The Register asked they indeed confirmed that it’s days are numbered.  While the Settings app has come along way from it’s pathetic start in Windows 8 it still lacks features only present in the Control Panel.  As well the Settings app does not off all your settings in a simple but comprehensive list form, assuming set Control Panel to show all items with small icons, it instead buries them behind random categories and multiple mouse clicks.

It may be time to either accept the inevitable, or to brush up on the PowerShell commands that replicate the advanced settings professional techs utilize each and every day.
