Don’t Call It 5K
The ASUS ROG Swift PG49WCD is a 32:9 49″ display with a 5120 x 1440 resolution, nearly 4′ in width with it’s 1800R curve. ASUS took advantage of the extra space on the back to include DisplayPort 1.4 port with DSC, 48 Gbps HDMI 2.1 port, a 90W USB-C port and even a KVM switch to swap between video sources and USB-A ports. The panel hits a maximum 144Hz refresh rate with Freesync Premium Pro or G-SYNC, and the 0.03ms response time is quite respectable. TweakTown were a little disappointed by the HDR performance, but for some the lack of a sunburn after a long gaming session might be appreciated.
The overall quality is lovely, but unless you are OK with stretched out screens the PG49WCD is best reserved for gamers that know their games support the 32:9 aspect ratio. Unfortunately many games simply can’t cope with such a big Starfield.
